AETA works to support the people of Timor-Leste and the East Timorese community in Australia through advocacy and information sharing.
It was established on 7 December 1975 in the wake of Indonesia’s occupation of East Timor. Since the restoration of independence, AETA continues as a networking hub for anyone interested in the story of Timor-Leste.
AETA activities include seminars, members meetings, special interest groups, on-line bookshop, archive project and annual independence dinner.
